Application forms for the Autumn sessions will open before the end of January once we have confirmed the number of instructors and places available
It is likely that the sessions will start mid February and go for 6 weeks
Thank you for showing an interest in our sailing school. We are happy to teach people who have not sailed before as well as those who need a refresher. We have a highly qualified coach to teach younger people in a range of dinghies depending on age and skill level. In general, we prefer to teach adults to sail in trailer yachts where it is easier to break down the skills and learn one skill at a time.
We love sailing but it’s not a sport for everybody. It is sometimes like you see on the big screen, but it can be cold, wet and a bit intimidating. It is a sport for those who lean towards being adventurous. It can be exhilarating and satisfying. If you are prepared to work towards this, you are likely to love it.
Otago harbour can be cold and windy. Our sessions often start in calm conditions and finish about the time the sea breeze (strong wind) kicks in. You need to be prepared for four seasons in one day.
If you’re still reading this, you are probably the sort of person we’re looking for.
They start at 8:30 on Sunday mornings and usually finish by 11:30.
The Autumn Course will start on Sunday the 22nd February and go till the 29th March. The weekend of the 15th March participants who wish will be able to crew on club boats in the Festival regatta as several of our instructors are involved in helping to run this regatta.
We expect to have seven places for dinghy sailors and up to 10 for trailer yacht sailors.
While we are running these courses in the interests of promoting our sport in general, preference may be given to those who are established in Otago and likely to become active sailors in our club
Applications will open as of now and will remain open until the 8th February unless all positions are filled prior to this date.
Payment will be expected before the couse begins. If any Sunday sessions are cancelled for weather we will attempt to run the session on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Because of the Easter break we are not able to extend our dates.
Best wishes
Owen Cambridge
