White Island Race
We had three boats participating in the race, eagerly set to compete against the backdrop of what promised to be a beautiful day. At the start, however, we encountered very light winds, which necessitated moving the starting line to the Heads. This change led to a slight delay as we awaited the passage of a larger vessel that was making its way out of the harbor.
The race officially began at 9:30 AM. Despite the light breeze, we took full advantage of the conditions and enjoyed some excellent sailing under a warm sun. The experience was further enhanced when a lively pod of dolphins joined us, playfully swimming alongside the boats. Shortly after, a curious seal also made an appearance and was followed by a spectacular sight—six majestic albatrosses gliding gracefully above us.
As the race progressed, the winds continued to remain light, which made for a leisurely pace. As the afternoon wore on, it became increasingly clear that the conditions weren’t ideal for racing. By around 2 PM, we all found ourselves drifting out of the race, unable to maintain the momentum we had hoped for.
It was great to be out on the water
